
Mission
The Ag 450 Farm strives to be a practical educational resource for Iowa State University and the Department of Agricultural Education and Studies by demonstrating quality, sustainable production of agricultural commodities in the Midwest.
Objectives
- Implement progressive agricultural farming practices to utilize resources efficiently and effectively
- Produce and market quality agricultural products
- Be a leader in implementing agricultural production technologies to support economic efficiency, agricultural sustainability, and complement row crop and livestock production
- Provide a positive and professional view of production agriculture to consumers and the general public
- Function as a farm management and hands-on learning laboratory for students enrolled in AGEDS 450
Operational Goals
- The farm will generate a profit at least 3 of every 5 years.
- The farm will operate with a diversified focus including corn, soybeans, and swine.
- Use of current land and buildings will be maximized to support the operational goals.
- Profits from the farm will be retained within the farm and invested into farm improvements, acquire additional land, and upgrade equipment and facilities.
- Students will engage with faculty and staff to review the operational goals on an annual basis.
